Heuer is a historic Swiss watchmaker founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. From its early years, the company specialized in precision timing and chronographs, patenting the oscillating pinion in 1887, a mechanism that remains influential in mechanical chronograph construction. Heuer became deeply connected with motorsport during the 20th century, producing dashboard timers and legendary wristwatches such as the Autavia, Carrera, and Monaco. In 1969, Heuer was part of the consortium that introduced the Calibre 11, one of the world’s first automatic chronograph movements, famously used in the square-cased Monaco. During the 1970s, Heuer’s bold designs became closely associated with Formula One and professional racing. After financial difficulties, Techniques d’Avant Garde acquired the company in 1985, creating TAG Heuer. Today, vintage pre-TAG Heuer watches are highly collectible, admired for their motorsport heritage, purposeful design, and important role in chronograph history.
